HISTORY OF STERLING CONSTRUCTION

The Sterling Family began construction services in the Greater Los Angeles area more than 75 years ago in the late 1920’s. Ben Sterling and Dave Sterling, Scott’s Grandfather and Great Uncle, began construction and oil operations in Los Angeles.

By 1930 Ben was building in the Long Beach area and Dave had started Sun Oil Company. Dave forged an independent oil company and established over 100 Golden Eagle gas stations in Southern California. Meanwhile, Ben began to construct apartment buildings in the Los Angeles area.

Ben’s sons Moe and Leo eventually became involved in the building industry. Leo became a demolition contractor and Moe started M.J. Sterling Co., a general contracting business. Moe built and maintained many of the Golden Eagle gas stations.

Later he developed custom homes and buildings in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. Leo was the demolition contractor for the Queen Mary before it was remodeled, and also for some of the larger Natural Gas containers in Los Angeles.

Moe’s sons, David and Scott continued the building tradition in the Sterling Family. Scott worked with David who attained his Contractor’s License in the late 1970’s and they contracted for custom homes and commercial projects.

David and Scott completed over 20 earthquake mitigation projects in the early 1980’s on commercial buildings in Los Angeles.

Scott started his first venture as a Landscape Contractor in the early 1980’s. That was when he learned water conservation methods such as drip irrigation, which he first installed in a building in Tarzana.

Scott and David continued to contract together until Scott branched off in 1989 and attained his own Contractor’s License in 1990. For the last 15 years Scott has been established in the San Fernando Valley with his home base in Northridge, California. Scott has built or remodeled over 100 projects ranging from Residential Remodels and New Homes to Commercial Tenant Improvements and Façade Rehabilitation to Industrial Concrete and Electrical Projects.

Scott’s strengths include an expert understanding of the structural elements that go into the concrete, steel, and framing aspects of building, and how those elements are interconnected. He also has an aesthetic touch to finish off a project with creative ingenuity. His sense of lighting, tile pattern and cabinet and woodwork tops off a project in a cohesive form of art.

Scott Sterling and his associates can be reached by phone, mail, email, or website. For your next building project you owe yourself Three Generations of knowledge and expertise behind you.
